RESIDUAL CURRENT MONITORING TYPE A TO B+

The new RCM 202-AB measuring device from Janitza enables continuous monitoring of residual currents in earthed TN systems in accordance with DIN EN 62020/VDE 0663/IEC 62020.

Continuous monitoring enables fault currents to be detected at an early stage and system damage, including production downtime, to be avoided. The decisive factor here is to detect the usually gradual increases in residual currents before fuses trigger residual current circuit breakers or data transmission/production is disrupted. In addition, a suitable RCM measurement monitors loads and cable installations for residual currents and offers an alternative to insulation measurement on fixed electrical installations (see IEC 60364-6:2016). This means that shutdowns of high-availability systems can be avoided and testing costs significantly reduced. There are also other advantages such as preventive fire protection and the detection of stray return conductor currents that cause EMC problems.

The RCM 202-AB measuring device is ideal for this task. It can detect, analyze and monitor residual currents of type A, B and B+. The evaluation covers all fault current types with an associated frequency analysis. For example, 50Hz, pure DC or high-frequency residual currents in the 20kHz range can be displayed individually. This means that the type of error can be identified relatively quickly and the user knows where to look.

The RCM 202-AB can be combined with standard Janitza residual current transformers and also enables Tyb B+ measurement with separable transformers. The transducers can be used flexibly thanks to their wide frequency range and patented measuring method. With these performance features, the RCM 202-AB is the first RCM type B+ device for retrofitting in existing systems. It is perfect for high-availability systems where no shutdowns are possible and good EMC must be guaranteed, such as data centers, hospitals, production facilities or logistics centers.

APPLICATIONS

MONITORING OF RESIDUAL CURRENTS TYPE A TO B+

The two-channel residual current monitoring device meets the requirements of the DIN EN 62020 standard. A recurring insulation test can be omitted or at least restricted. Typical places of use are the low-voltage main distribution board (LVMD) and the sub-distribution boards (SMD) in earthed systems (e.g. TN-S systems). The RCM 202-AB is a safe alternative across all industries if current interruptions due to a residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) or an insulation resistance measurement cannot be tolerated. Full integration into the GridVis® software is possible. The device can be integrated directly via the RS485 interface.
